"Just what is it today that makes today's home so different, so appealing?" by Richard Hamilton 1956
"This collage of a stylized 1950's interior is a landmark in post-war art. The artist has combined cut-up photographs and cuttings from magazines to create a consumer paradise -- albeit a wittingly sardonic one. The "POP" on the over-sized lollipop is crucial as it is probably the first visual reference to the world which heralded a major new movement in art. The imagery Hamilton has used embodies the Pop Art movement which used symbols from contemporary mass media, popular culture and advertising." The Art Book by Phaidon
Collecting and Archiving as Creative Process
Assignment 1: Compile 15 images that together form a collection. Load the images on to the blog.
Provide a critique of each collection. Title your collection in the title field and make sure you add your byline (your name). For example: Wildlife Eating Orange Foods by Onetwo Three
Key questions to address in crits:
1. How cohesive is the collection?
2. Unity: How is the collection unified? Composition, subject matter, concept, etc.
3. Variety: Too much or not enough?
